
Cabot Martin
Cabot Martin is a graduate of Memorial University (B.Sc) and Queen’s University at Kingston (LLB). He has been a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador since 1969. In 1969 and 1970, he worked as in-house counsel for a major U.S. pipeline company and a major U.S. oil producer in Calgary. In 1970/ 1971, he studied marine law and science at the University of Miami at Coral Gables and the Rosentiel Institute of marine and Atmospheric Sciences. In 1972, he became Legal Advisor to the Minister of Mines and Energy for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador with special responsibility for offshore oil and gas matters, a post he held until 1979 when he became Senior Policy Advisor to the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Mr. Martin has served as Newfoundland and Labrador’s representative at the United Nations Law of the Sea Conference and on the Province’s Hibernia Negotiating Committee.
Since 1985, Mr. Martin has been in private practice and business. In 1991, he co-founded Vinland Petroleum Inc., the first Newfoundland and Labrador based oil and gas exploration company which participated in the drilling of three onshore exploration wells.
In 1998, he founded Deer Lake Oil & Gas Inc., and has been its President and CEO since that date.
