
Frank Ryan
Frank Ryan was educated at St. Bonaventure’s College and Memorial University of Newfoundland, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.
Since 1965, Mr. Ryan has worked continuously in the private sector.
In 1977, Mr. Ryan formed Atlantic Leasing Limited to redevelop the Murray Premises, a collection of historic mercantile buildings in downtown St. John’s. In 1981, the project received the Governor General of Canada Heritage Conservation Award for the quality of its redevelopment and restoration work.
In 1980, Mr. Ryan became a founding shareholder, director and President of Cabot Development Corporation Limited. The other shareholders of the company included some of Canada’s foremost financial institutions. Mr. Ryan served as President of the company until 1988 and oversaw the development of a $65 million dollar hotel/convention/office complex which opened in 1987. In addition, the company assembled and commenced development of the St. John’s Airport Industrial Park.
In 1989, Mr. Ryan was appointed to the board of directors of Canadian National Railway Company and, in 1994, was appointed chairman of the C.N. audit committee and oversaw the revision of the terms of reference of the committee prior to privatization. The subsequent public listing of the company shares on the Toronto and New York Stock Exchanges was the biggest single financial transaction in Canada to that time.
Mr. Ryan is currently President of Atlantic Leasing Limited, Torbay Estates Limited and is a director of Paradise Development Corporation Limited.
